I'm new to the tiling profession and was wondering if there's any experienced tilers out there who can give me tips on getting noticed. I ain't got big money to splash out on major advertising and I'm just relying on postcards in shops,posting business cards and flyers and run an ad in a local paper for a couple weeks and nothing's really coming through. I took a job on site and they sent me 60 miles away, so I had to drive 600 miles a week and basically I weren't up to speed (being new) to make a good living.The tiling firm I worked for were more than happy with the quality of my work and encouraged me to stick it out, but being the breadwinner with a young family I couldn't afford to. So for the sake of bringing a wage home to my family I had to find a job in a factory until I can get enough business in ..... Any Ideas??? I'm desperate!!!

The main thing you want is a website that's ranking for "tiler in XXXX" xxxx being your area. It'll cost a few hundred quid but can pay for itself after one job, and if it's ranking well, it'll get a few jobs a week once it gets going.

you picked a bad time to start out in the tiling trade with the downturn the same for all tilers,but spending loads on advertising still wont bring in the work,the best way is word of mouth and recommendations from past customers and reviews on site like this and free sites that allow photos of past work,dont give up best of luck.

Thanks Thomas. I did think that and have been on a few sites and quoted for jobs but haven't won any. I was thinking about checkatrade or trust a trader cos I thought getting a good average of hits a week like they promise, I would be happy with a couple of small jobs a week.

I would recommend a basic google friendly website with twitter and facebook links etc. Blog daily if possible and keep your content fresh. Link to other sites to increase your visibility and use Google analytics to monitor how you're sites doing. Sites can take months to perpetuate through the web but the sooner you start the better. :-)
